Super Tuesday – Bike Count for QLD and NT – 6 Sept 2011

Super Tuesday is Australia’s biggest visual bike count.  This year, it is on Tuesday 6 September 2011 from 7am-9am.  It will be the second time it has been run in the northern states.  The data collected is used by councils to find out where people are riding and how many are out there so they can better make cycling investments.

For the southern states, unfortunately, you’ve already had your Super Tuesday which is usually in March.  But the tropical weather is a bit more amiable to riding in September.

What can you do to be involved:

  • Be a counter.  You can earn $50 for your local club, school, not-for-profit or community group by being a counter on the day.  You will also get a free shirt for your troubles – 2hrs of work marvelling at the cycling masses. Register here to be a counter.
  • Ride that day.  Be out and counted on Tuesday morning!
I can’t say I’m overly enthused about the date set for Super Tuesday.  Those of us who are in the regions may have already packed up and/or dropped off our bikes for Cycle Qld to the various depots.  I wonder if this will have some impact on numbers out there.
